TCS Launches Custom SoC Services as Automakers Race to Build AI-Driven Vehicles

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has launched Custom System-on-Chip (SoC) Design Services for automotive OEMs and semiconductor companies, targeting the growing demand for specialised computing platforms as vehicles become increasingly software-defined and AI-driven.

The new service is designed to help automakers and semiconductor ecosystem companies take custom SoCs from architecture and design through verification, implementation, software integration and system validation.

TCS said the offering brings together semiconductor engineering, VLSI design, hardware-software co-design and system-level validation capabilities.

For automakers, custom silicon can provide greater control over the hardware supporting these software platforms. Purpose-built SoCs can be designed around specific workloads and vehicle requirements, potentially improving performance-per-watt while giving manufacturers greater flexibility over their technology roadmaps.

TCS is also positioning its chip-to-system engineering approach as a key part of the offering. Rather than developing the chip independently, the approach considers vehicle architecture, software platforms, workloads and computing requirements before defining the SoC architecture.

TCS said the services are aimed at helping customers accelerate custom silicon programmes while improving productivity, cost efficiency and control over their silicon roadmaps.
