Matters.AI and Cockroach Labs Bring Sensitive Data Access Mapping to CockroachDB

Bengaluru-based data security company Matters.AI has partnered with Cockroach Labs to help enterprises identify sensitive and regulated data inside CockroachDB deployments and map that information to the users, roles and privileges that can access it.

The integration, available now to CockroachDB customers, classifies personal and regulated information at the database column level and creates an access map showing which accounts and roles can reach sensitive data.

The integration scans CockroachDB databases, tables and columns using 38 personally identifiable information (PII) detectors across eight regulatory jurisdictions. It also identifies payment card numbers, protected health information and secrets contained in free-text columns.

Matters.AI then correlates classified columns with CockroachDB users, roles and privilege grants. This allows enterprises to identify which accounts can access regulated information, whether users have privileges beyond what they require and where sensitive data is stored across jurisdictions.

The launch comes as Indian enterprises prepare for the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Rules, notified in November 2025, with substantive obligations for data fiduciaries scheduled to take effect from May 2027. Banks, insurers and payment companies also operate under existing data-localisation and cybersecurity requirements.
