IonQ Appoints Kanishka Agiwal as India Head Amid Growing Enterprise Interest in Quantum Computing

Quantum computing company IonQ has appointed Kanishka Agiwal as its Country Head and Managing Director for India, signaling its intent to expand commercial quantum computing deployments in one of the world's fastest-growing technology markets.

Announcing the move on LinkedIn, Agiwal said the conversation around quantum computing in India has shifted significantly over the past few years, with enterprises and institutions moving beyond curiosity to active deployment discussions.

"A few years ago, most of my conversations about quantum computing in India ended with a polite version of the same question: when will this actually be ready? That question has quietly disappeared. Institutions here stopped asking whether and started asking how much, how soon, and for which use cases," he wrote.

According to Agiwal, his immediate focus will be on helping Indian enterprises and institutions deploy production-ready quantum systems rather than limiting discussions to research and experimentation.

"My job is to put IonQ systems into Indian institutions and enterprises, to build the team that supports them, and to make sure the hard questions this market asks get honest answers rather than a brochure," he wrote.

He also said he would spend the coming months engaging with organisations that are serious about deploying quantum technology and invited enterprises exploring commercial use cases to connect with the company.

Before joining IonQ, Agiwal served as Vice President of Sales at Indian quantum startup QpiAI, where he led sales and partnerships for the company's quantum computing and AI offerings.

Prior to that, he headed AWS' Service Lines for India and South Asia, driving adoption of cloud, AI, analytics and emerging technologies across enterprises, governments and public sector organisations.

IonQ is one of the world's leading quantum computing companies and develops a full-stack quantum ecosystem spanning quantum computing, networking and sensing.

Founded in 2015 by quantum physicists Christopher Monroe and Jungsang Kim, IonQ is a U.S.-based quantum computing company headquartered in College Park, Maryland.
