Anthropic Brings In-Country Claude Inference to India

Anthropic is expanding its footprint in India by introducing in-country inference for its Claude AI models through Amazon Bedrock.

The capability, which will roll out in the coming weeks, allows requests sent to Claude through the India endpoint on Amazon Bedrock to be processed on servers located in India.

The company said the offering addresses growing demand from Indian organisations, particularly those operating in regulated sectors such as banking, insurance and the public sector, where data residency and compliance are critical.

The announcement also comes as Anthropic deepens its presence in India following the opening of its Bengaluru office earlier this year and expands partnerships with enterprises, startups and technology service providers deploying Claude at scale.

"Bringing Claude inference to India is a turning point for enterprise AI in this country. India's banks, insurers, telecoms, public and government agencies steward the data of a billion people. When that data can stay in India, AI moves from pilots into the systems that matter most. Adding in-country inference marks a significant step forward in what we are building here—a growing local team, strong performance in Indian languages, and partnerships that put this technology to work for India," Irina Ghose, Anthropic India Managing Director, said.

With Anthropic's Claude now available for in-country inferencing through Amazon Bedrock, they can deploy it on the same trusted infrastructure they already run their most critical workloads on, unlocking new possibilities in citizen services and digital transformation," Sandeep Dutta, AWS India and South Asia President, added.

Anthropic said several Indian organisations are already using Claude, including Axis Bank, NPCI, IndusInd Bank, Godrej Industries, TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, LTIMindtree, LTTS, Swiggy, InVideo, Atlan, CRED, Zamp.ai and Freshworks.

The company is also supporting AI research and public-interest initiatives through collaborations with the Indian Institute of Science, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Digital Green, Agami, Civis and Karya.

Anthropic and AWS have been strategic partners since 2023, with Amazon investing billions of dollars in the AI startup and making AWS its primary cloud provider.
