Gemini Hits 1 Bn Users, Becomes Google’s Fastest-Growing Product Ever

Google has announced that the Gemini app has surpassed 1 billion monthly users for the first time. This also makes Gemini the fastest-growing product in Google's history as usage expands across voice, image generation, education, and everyday tasks.

Voice is becoming a major part of how people interact with Gemini. Google said 63% of users now talk directly to the AI, with "voice-only" usage also increasing. Busy parents are 43% more likely to use voice for everyday tasks, according to the company.

Gemini is also increasingly being used through cameras and screens. Google said one in five Gemini Live interactions now goes beyond voice, with users relying on live camera feeds and screen sharing for real-time problem-solving. DIY users and students are among the groups using these capabilities most heavily.

Students are also frequently uploading material to Gemini. Google said 38% of school-related requests include an attachment, suggesting that the chatbot is increasingly being used to analyse documents and other learning materials. Image generation has become another major use case.

"Gemini now generates 150 million+ images every day. It lets you do images, video, and audio in one place, helping small businesses create products like marketing materials," Google said in a blog post.

On Android, Gemini can automate actions across more than 40 popular apps, allowing users to perform tasks such as booking rides and making restaurant reservations.

Meanwhile, Gemini has crossed 100 million active users on iOS, while macOS users reportedly prompt Gemini roughly twice as frequently as users on other platforms.

Gemini’s rapid growth comes as Google continues to post strong financial results. Alphabet reported $119.8 billion in revenue for the second quarter of 2026, up 24% year over year, marking its 12th consecutive quarter of double-digit revenue growth.

Google Services revenue rose 15% to $94.5 billion, while Google Cloud revenue surged 82% to $24.8 billion, driven in part by demand for AI infrastructure and enterprise AI solutions.
