Anthropic Commits $11.6 Bn to Akamai Cloud in Seven-Year AI Infrastructure Deal

Anthropic has committed $11.6 billion to Akamai Technologies over seven years as the AI company expands its computing infrastructure to support growing CPU workload demands.

The agreement will use Akamai Cloud’s distributed AI infrastructure and software to support Anthropic’s AI workloads at scale.

“We have observed instances of misaligned behavior from the models, such as a willingness to perform misaligned actions in service of completing difficult tasks,” Anthropic said.

The deal adds to more than $2.8 billion in multi-year Cloud Infrastructure Services commitments Akamai has announced across its customer base this year, highlighting growing demand for infrastructure capable of supporting large-scale AI deployments.

As part of the agreement, Akamai has issued Anthropic a warrant to purchase non-voting convertible Series B Preferred Stock representing 7.7 million Akamai common shares on an as-converted basis, or approximately 5% of the company’s outstanding common stock. The warrant carries an exercise price of $111.33 per share.

Akamai said its cloud platform provides compute across core and edge locations, supported by a distributed network spanning thousands of points of presence. The infrastructure uses diversified hardware to help customers build, deploy and operate applications while optimising how workloads are delivered to users and AI agents.

Anthropic has been rapidly diversifying its cloud infrastructure. It has committed more than $100 billion to AWS over a decade for up to 5GW of capacity, while expanding its Google Cloud relationship with multiple gigawatts of TPUs.

Claude is also available through Microsoft Azure, alongside AWS and Google Cloud, giving Anthropic a multi-cloud infrastructure strategy.
