Anthropic Acquires Stainless to Strengthen AI Agent Connectivity

Anthropic has acquired Stainless, a startup specialising in SDK generation and MCP server tooling, as the artificial intelligence company looks to expand the capabilities of AI agents and improve how they connect with external systems and tools.

Founded in 2022, Stainless has been closely linked with Anthropic’s developer ecosystem, powering the generation of official Claude SDKs since the early days of the API platform.

The company develops tools that automatically convert API specifications into software development kits, command-line interfaces, and MCP servers across programming languages including TypeScript, Python, Go, Java, and Kotlin.

Anthropic said the acquisition is aimed at strengthening the infrastructure that allows AI agents to interact with enterprise systems, applications, and data sources more effectively.

“Stainless has shaped how developers experience the Claude API since the start, and it’s been great to work with them on that,” said Katelyn Lesse, Head of Platform Engineering at Anthropic. “Agents are only as useful as what they can connect to. We’re excited to bring the Stainless team into Anthropic to advance Claude’s ability to connect to data and tools.”

The move comes as AI companies increasingly focus on “agentic AI” systems capable of autonomously performing tasks rather than simply responding to prompts.

“I started Stainless because SDKs deserve as much care as the APIs they wrap. Anthropic was one of the first teams to bet on this with us,” said Alex Rattray, Founder and CEO of Stainless. “We have been watching what developers have built on Claude over the last few years, which made bringing our teams together an easy decision. The team gets to keep doing the work we love, on the platform where it matters most.”

Anthropic noted that the integration of Stainless will help expand the Claude Platform’s developer experience and agent connectivity ecosystem built around the MCP framework.
