India's Global Capability Centre (GCC) boom has entered a new phase. Once known primarily for IT support and back-office operations, the country is now attracting multinational corporations looking to build AI, cybersecurity, engineering, product development, semiconductor, healthcare, and financial technology capabilities from India.

According to the latest Nasscom-Zinnov report, India hosts 2,117 GCCs employing 2.36 million professionals and generating nearly $98.4 billion in revenue, with almost half of the centres established since FY2021 built with AI at their core.

In 2026, the momentum has accelerated further. From Fortune 500 retailers and banks to pharmaceutical giants and aerospace companies, global firms have announced new GCCs across Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, and Visakhapatnam. Here are nine of the most significant GCC launches this year.

1. T-Mobile: Building a Telecom Engineering Hub in Hyderabad

Headquarters: Bellevue, Washington, US

India location: Hyderabad

Among the biggest GCC announcements of 2026 came from T-Mobile, America's second-largest wireless carrier. The company inaugurated its India GCC in Hyderabad as part of a broader strategy to accelerate digital transformation and strengthen software engineering capabilities.

The centre is expected to support cloud infrastructure, AI, cybersecurity, data engineering, network automation, and digital customer experiences.

Unlike traditional telecom support centres, Hyderabad's engineers will contribute directly to products used by millions of T-Mobile subscribers.

The company selected Hyderabad after evaluating several international locations. Industry observers cite Telangana's mature technology ecosystem, availability of experienced cloud engineers, and strong AI talent as major factors influencing the decision.

T-Mobile also plans aggressive hiring over the next few years, recruiting engineers, AI specialists, software developers, product managers, and cybersecurity professionals.

2. Costco: The Warehouse Retail Giant Bets on India

India location: Hyderabad

Costco has no physical retail stores in India. Yet in 2026, the American warehouse retailer made one of its biggest investments in the country by establishing its first GCC.

The Hyderabad centre will serve as a technology and digital operations hub supporting Costco's worldwide business. Teams are expected to work on enterprise applications, cloud engineering, retail technology, cybersecurity, supply chain analytics, finance transformation, and data engineering.

Reports suggest the company plans to build a workforce of nearly 1,000 professionals over the coming years. For Costco, whose operations depend on efficient supply chains and data-driven inventory management, India provides access to one of the world's largest pools of software engineers.

The Hyderabad GCC will likely collaborate closely with technology teams in the United States, helping modernise Costco's digital infrastructure while supporting future expansion.

3. Cohere Health

Headquarters: Boston, Massachusetts, US

India location: Hyderabad

Among all the GCC announcements this year, Cohere Health stands out because it represents a rapidly growing trend: healthcare technology companies choosing India as their global innovation base.

Founded in 2019, Cohere Health develops AI-powered software that helps health insurers and healthcare providers streamline prior authorisation, improve clinical decision-making, and reduce administrative burdens.

On February 26, 2026, the company officially announced its first international Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad. Unlike conventional back-office healthcare operations, the new centre has been established to support high-value engineering functions.

Teams in Hyderabad will develop artificial intelligence models, machine learning systems, cloud infrastructure, software engineering platforms, healthcare analytics, automation tools, and product development initiatives serving customers across North America.

Company executives described the GCC as a strategic extension of Cohere Health's product organisation rather than a support office. The Hyderabad team is expected to collaborate directly with engineering and product leaders in Boston.

4. LPL Financial

India location: Hyderabad

One of the year's largest financial services investments came from LPL Financial, the largest independent broker-dealer in the United States. The company announced its India GCC in Hyderabad with plans to build a workforce of nearly 2,500 employees over the next few years.

Unlike earlier offshore centres that focused on operations or customer support, the Hyderabad GCC has been tasked with supporting software engineering, digital product development, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise architecture, data engineering, and artificial intelligence initiatives.

The company views India as an extension of its global technology organization rather than a separate offshore operation. Engineers recruited in Hyderabad will work alongside teams in the United States on platforms used by thousands of financial advisers and millions of investor accounts.

Financial institutions have historically been cautious about moving critical engineering work outside their home markets. That is changing rapidly.

5. Lonza: Strengthening Pharmaceutical Innovation

India location: Hyderabad

Swiss pharmaceutical manufacturing giant Lonza selected Hyderabad for its first GCC in India, further cementing the city's position as one of the world's leading life sciences hubs.

Unlike pharmaceutical companies that initially established centres in India for finance and administrative support, Lonza's GCC will contribute to scientific operations, enterprise technology, digital transformation, business analytics, and research support.

The company is also expected to leverage artificial intelligence and advanced analytics to optimize manufacturing processes and improve operational efficiency across its global network.

The city is home to some of India's largest pharmaceutical manufacturers, vaccine producers, biotechnology companies, and contract research organisations. This combination of scientific expertise and software engineering creates a unique ecosystem that few global cities can match.

For Lonza, establishing its capability centre in Hyderabad allows closer collaboration with both pharmaceutical researchers and technology specialists.

6. Heineken

Headquarters: Amsterdam, Netherlands

India location: Hyderabad

Global brewer Heineken became another multinational to establish a GCC in Hyderabad as part of its worldwide digital transformation strategy.

The centre is expected to support finance, procurement, supply chain management, enterprise technology, data analytics, and digital business services across Heineken's international operations.

Reports suggest the company plans to create around 1,600 jobs, making it one of the largest consumer goods GCC announcements of the year.

Consumer packaged goods companies increasingly rely on advanced analytics to optimise production, forecast demand, manage inventories, and improve sustainability.

Artificial intelligence now plays a critical role in everything from predicting consumer purchasing behaviour to improving logistics across global distribution networks.

Rather than outsourcing these capabilities to external vendors, companies like Heineken are building internal technology organisations capable of developing proprietary digital platforms.

7. Southwest Airlines

India location: Hyderabad

The aviation industry also joined India's GCC boom in 2026.

Southwest Airlines, one of the largest domestic airlines in the United States, announced its India technology centre in Hyderabad to support software engineering, digital transformation, cybersecurity, enterprise applications, and cloud technologies.

Modern airlines increasingly operate as technology companies. Digital platforms now manage aircraft maintenance, crew scheduling, route optimization, ticket pricing, customer engagement, baggage tracking, loyalty programmes, and operational resilience.

8. Zurich Insurance Group

Global insurers have traditionally relied on India for technology and back-office operations. In 2026, however, Zurich Insurance Group signalled a different approach by launching a new GCC in Hyderabad that has been designed around artificial intelligence from day one.

The centre will take end-to-end ownership of engineering, data, and core business operations while embedding AI into every stage of product development and service delivery.

According to the company, the facility has been built without legacy technology constraints, allowing teams to develop and scale modern, AI-enabled solutions for customers worldwide.

The company also appointed Amit Kalra as Global Head of Zurich Capability Centers, effective July 1, 2026, to lead the group's worldwide GCC strategy while overseeing the establishment and expansion of the Hyderabad centre.

Zurich plans to recruit specialists across cloud and platform engineering, data and AI, application development, cybersecurity, and quality engineering. These teams will contribute directly to global platforms rather than serving as a traditional offshore support function.

9.Redwood Software

India location: Hyderabad

Enterprise automation company Redwood Software joined the growing list of multinational companies establishing a GCC in India by selecting Hyderabad for its newest engineering and innovation hub.

The company, known for its workload automation and orchestration platform used by global enterprises, is expanding its product engineering footprint to support growing demand for AI-driven automation and cloud-native technologies.

The Hyderabad GCC has been established to drive software engineering, cloud platform development, DevOps, quality engineering, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence initiatives.

Rather than functioning as a traditional offshore support centre, engineers in India will contribute directly to the development of Redwood's flagship automation platform, collaborating with global product and engineering teams.
