OpenAI Launches Student Collective, Invites Campus Leaders Across India and Seven Other Countries
The initiative seeks undergraduate students who are passionate about artificial intelligence and interested in building AI communities at their universities.
OpenAI has launched the OpenAI Student Collective, a new global programme to empower undergraduate students to lead AI education and innovation on university campuses across India, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, and South Korea.
The initiative seeks undergraduate students who are passionate about artificial intelligence and interested in building AI communities at their universities.
"We’re looking for students excited to bring peers from every field together, help them gain confidence with OpenAI tools, and showcase what they create with a global community," OpenAI said in a blog post.
Selected participants, known as Campus Leads, will work in pairs to organise workshops, mentor peers, and showcase AI-powered projects throughout the academic year.
Under the programme, Campus Leads will host four AI workshops each semester, conduct weekly "Studio Hours" where students collaborate on projects using OpenAI tools, and organise campus-wide showcases highlighting AI applications developed by students. Participants will also gain access to a global community of student leaders and OpenAI mentors.
Selected Campus Leads will receive a ChatGPT subscription, Codex credits, funding to organise university events, training on the latest OpenAI technologies, exclusive merchandise, and a cash stipend for each semester.
The company will also offer opportunities to visit its headquarters in June 2027, as well as networking with OpenAI employees and fellow student leaders worldwide.
The programme is open to undergraduate students aged 18 or older who are enrolled through at least December 2027. Applicants must commit 4–6 hours per week between August 2026 and June 2027. Applications for the inaugural cohort are open until August 10, 2026.
Last year, Perplexity AI shut down its popular Campus Partner Programme in India after it was flooded with fake or bot-generated referrals, leading to “reward hacking” and skewed results.
