Google Search Gets Connected Apps, Bringing Canva, Instacart & YouTube Music Into AI Mode

Google is expanding the capabilities of AI Mode in Search by introducing Connected Apps, a new feature that allows users to securely link third-party services such as Canva, Instacart, and YouTube Music directly to Search.

The feature is rolling out in the US and is designed to help users complete tasks without leaving the search experience. With Connected Apps, users can ask AI Mode to perform actions across supported services.

For example, someone planning a barbecue can generate a grocery list and add the ingredients directly to an Instacart shopping cart. Users creating marketing materials can request Canva to surface relevant design templates, while music lovers can ask AI Mode to curate and save playlists in YouTube Music.

The announcement builds on Google's broader Personal Intelligence initiative, which combines AI with user context to deliver more personalised responses.

By integrating external services into AI Mode, Google wants to make Search more action-oriented, enabling users to move seamlessly from finding information to completing tasks.

Google said app connections are secure and optional, with users choosing which services they want to link to their Google accounts. After AI Mode completes a request, users are redirected to the connected app to finalise actions such as placing an order, editing a design, or playing a playlist.

The company said it plans to add more partners over time, expanding the range of tasks users can complete directly from AI-powered Search.
