AWS Launches AgentCore Payments for AI Agents With Coinbase and Stripe

Amazon Web Services has unveiled Amazon Bedrock AgentCore payments, a new capability designed to let AI agents autonomously access and pay for digital services such as APIs, web content, MCP servers, and other AI agents.

The feature, launched in preview, was developed in partnership with Coinbase and Stripe.

According to AWS, the new payment infrastructure is integrated directly into Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, its platform for building and managing AI agents.

"AgentCore is designed to work with any framework and any protocol. We’ve carried that same flexibility into Amazon Bedrock AgentCore payments," Preethi CN, AWS Director, Agentic AI, said.

The preview supports the x402 protocol, an HTTP-native payment standard for stablecoin micropayments developed by Coinbase. Developers can connect agents to Coinbase wallets or Stripe-powered Privy wallets, define spending limits, and allow agents to complete transactions within predefined guardrails.

The company said the system enables developers to build agents capable of making secure micropayments for services during execution without requiring manual billing integrations.

The technology could enable use cases such as research agents purchasing access to real-time market data or coding agents paying for specialised APIs and cloud tools.

“There will soon be more AI agents transacting than humans, and they need money that’s built for the internet – programmable, always on, and global. By bringing Coinbase’s stablecoin infrastructure and x402 into AWS AgentCore, we’re giving developers the full stack to build agents that move money at software speed, with the trust and compliance enterprises expect,” Brian Foster, Coinbase Head, Infrastructure Growth and Strategy, said.

“Stripe is building the economic infrastructure for AI. For agents to become meaningful economic actors, they need a way to hold and spend money. That’s why we’re excited to partner with AWS to make stablecoin wallets for agents readily available to AgentCore developers,” Henri Stern, Privy, a Stripe company, CEO, added.

AWS said the preview is available in select regions including US East, US West, Frankfurt, and Sydney.
