Sarvam Launches Campus Programme to Take AI Building to Universities Across India

Indian AI startup Sarvam has announced Sarvam Campus, a new programme that will take its founders, researchers and engineers to universities across India to engage the next generation of AI builders.

The initiative will bring Sarvam’s teams to university campuses for a day of technical sessions, workshops, talks and live hackathons. Students will also get access to Sarvam’s products and opportunities to build applications alongside the company’s engineering and research teams.

“There is extraordinary ambition on India’s campuses. A generation is coming of age believing it can build almost anything,” Sarvam said.

The initiative comes as AI companies increasingly turn to universities not only as a source of talent, but also as a testing ground for new products, developers and ideas.

OpenAI has expanded its education and developer efforts in India through OpenAI Academy, including partnerships with IIT Madras, AICTE and other institutions.

In 2025, OpenAI also partnered with NxtWave and NSDC for a nationwide GenAI buildathon that brought students together across regional hubs to develop applications using OpenAI APIs.

Last month, the San Francisco-based startup launched the OpenAI Student Collective, a new global programme to empower undergraduate students to lead AI education and innovation on university campuses across India.

Perplexity, meanwhile, has been building its own campus presence through its Campus Strategist Programme, which gives selected students responsibility for grassroots campaigns and community-building activities. The company has also introduced student-focused offerings including Education Pro and Learn Mode.

Sarvam’s approach differs by putting hands-on building at the centre of its campus strategy. Rather than limiting engagement to product access or awareness programmes, the company plans to bring its technical teams directly to universities and spend the day building with students.

The company said Sarvam Campus will allow students to experiment with its technology and explore where their ideas can take the technology.
