OpenAI to Launch AI-Powered LinkedIn Competitor

OpenAI is building an AI-powered hiring platform that could challenge LinkedIn, the company confirmed Thursday. Called the OpenAI Jobs Platform, the service is expected to launch by mid-2026.

"The jobs platform won’t just be a way for big companies to attract more talent. It will have a track dedicated to helping local businesses compete, and local governments find the AI talent they need to better serve their constituents," Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s CEO of Applications, wrote in a blog post.

The move signals OpenAI’s push into applications beyond ChatGPT. Sam Altman, the company’s CEO, recently said Simo would oversee new ventures, including the Jobs Platform, and potentially products like a browser and a social media app.

The hiring service puts OpenAI in direct competition with Microsoft-owned LinkedIn, co-founded by Reid Hoffman, one of OpenAI’s earliest investors. LinkedIn has also been adding AI-powered job-matching tools.

Alongside the hiring platform, OpenAI will expand its OpenAI Academy, offering certifications in AI fluency, with a pilot planned for late 2025. The company is partnering with Walmart to certify 10 million Americans by 2030 as part of the White House’s AI literacy initiative.

Earlier this week, Kevin Weil, Chief Product Officer at OpenAI, announced OpenAI for Science, a new initiative designed to harness AI to accelerate scientific discovery. Revealing the project in a social media post, Weil described it as the “next great scientific instrument.”
