Intel to Lay off 21000 Employees
Tan is aiming to streamline Intel’s management structure and reestablish a stronger engineering-driven culture at the company

Intel is preparing to cut over 21,000 jobs—approximately 20% of its global workforce—according to a report by Bloomberg. The announcement is expected later this week, just ahead of the company’s Q1 earnings call.
The layoffs mark a major move by newly appointed CEO Lip-Bu Tan, who took over from Pat Gelsinger in late 2024.
Tan is aiming to streamline Intel’s management structure and reestablish a stronger engineering-driven culture at the company.
This is the latest in a series of cuts for Intel, which had already reduced headcount by 15,000 in August 2024. As of the end of last year, the company employed around 108,900 people.
Intel has faced ongoing challenges, with its stock falling roughly 67% over the past five years. Since stepping into the CEO role, Tan has pushed to restructure the company by spinning off certain divisions into “non-core” units.
Recently, Intel appointed Sachin Katti as its new Chief Technology Officer and Head of AI, signaling a strategic leadership shift under Tan.
The move is part of Tan’s broader effort to streamline decision-making and sharpen Intel’s focus on artificial intelligence.
