The Hyderabad-based CtrlS Datacenters on Tuesday inaugurated its ₹4,000 crore data centre in Chennai in phases. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated the centre located at Ambattur industrial estate.

Chennai is the company’s fifth hyperscale data centre campus following Mumbai, Hyderabad, Noida and Bengaluru.

The data centre will bring an indirect investment of around ₹50,000 crore and create 500 direct and 9,000 indirect jobs.

Named Namma Datacenter , the data centre campus will include two data centre buildings with a combined built-up area of almost 1 million sq feet, and 72 MW IT load capacity, he said. It will be one of the world’s tallest datacentres, with two inter-connected buildings of 45 MW and 28 MW capacity, he said.

As the facility reaches full capacity, it is projected to generate GST revenue of around ₹2,000 crore directly and an additional ₹3,000 crore indirectly each year. The State’s energy sector is also expected to benefit from an estimated power revenue of ₹800 crore annually, he said.

The Chennai facility is part of the $2-billion investment plans for 4-5 years - announced by the company in 2023. Of this, nearly half the amount has been spent, he said.

Future plans

The company, which began its operations in 2007, operates 15 data centres across eight key markets and is set to have over 650 MW of data centre capacity by 2030.

CtrlS Datacenters has announced its plans to explore new overseas markets in Southeast Asia and Middle East, with Thailand being the first international market foray.

The city’s rise is backed by State’s strong industrial framework, reliable power supply and superior global connectivity. All of this has drawn considerable digital investment, the release said.

The company said that according to industry estimates, Chennai’s data centre capacity is expected to double by 2026, with ongoing projects set to add 2.6 million sq ft (134 MW) and an additional 2.5 million sq ft (130 MW) planned for 2027-28. As of June 2025, the city’s operational data centre capacity stood at 108 MW, said a release.

Sridhar Pinnapureddy, founder and CEO of CtrlS Datacenters, said the company’s revenue was around $500 million and has been growing at around 35 per cent year-on-year. “We expect to grow over 45 per cent in the coming years, he added. Some of its customers are State Bank of India, JK Tyres, Zoho, Intel, AllcargoGati and IndiaFirst Life Insurance.”

On tapping the capital markets, Pinnapureddy said, “We are contemplating it and discussing internally.” So far, the company has invested from internal accruals, debt and customers’ advance, he added.
