Amazon Q Developer is now on GitHub

Amazon on Monday announced the preview release of its Amazon Q Developer integration for GitHub, enabling developers to build, review, and migrate code directly within their repositories.

"You can use the Amazon Q Developer agents for feature development, code review, and Java code transformation within GitHub.com and GitHub Enterprise Cloud (preview)," Amazon said in a blog post.

For developers who prefer not to create an AWS account, Amazon allows access to the generative AI agent directly within the GitHub workflow via the Q Developer app.

While still in preview, the new integration positions Q Developer as one of the few AI-powered coding assistants with such deep GitHub integration—offering an alternative to tools like GitHub Copilot, which recently introduced its own advanced "vibe coding" features.

Earlier this month, Amazon unveiled Nova Premier, calling it the most advanced AI model in its Nova family to date.

Available through Amazon Bedrock—its platform for building and deploying AI models—Nova Premier can process text, images, and video (though not audio).

According to Amazon, the model is optimised for complex tasks that demand a deep understanding of context, multi-step reasoning, and accurate execution across various tools and data sources.
