YouTube Expands Conversational AI Assistant to TVs Amid Streaming Surge

YouTube is expanding its conversational AI assistant to televisions, allowing eligible users to interact with videos directly from their TV screens.

According to YouTube’s support page, users can click the “Ask” button to summon the AI assistant, which suggests questions based on the video being watched. Viewers can also press the microphone button on their remote to ask custom questions without pausing or exiting the app.

The feature enables real-time responses to queries such as recipe ingredients in cooking videos or the meaning behind song lyrics, creating a more interactive viewing experience. Currently, the tool is available to a limited group of users aged 18 and older and supports English, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese and Korean.

YouTube first introduced the conversational AI feature in 2024 to help audiences explore content more deeply. Its expansion to TVs comes as television has become a dominant platform for YouTube viewing.

A Nielsen report in April 2025 found YouTube captured 12.4% of total TV audience time, surpassing platforms like Disney and Netflix.

Meanwhile, Amazon has introduced Alexa+ on Fire TV devices, further intensifying competition in AI-powered home entertainment.
