Truecaller Introduces Feature Letting Users Hang Up on Scam Calls for Family Members

Caller identification platform Truecaller has introduced a new feature that allows users to remotely hang up on scam calls received by their family members, according to a report by TechCrunch.

The feature, part of Truecaller’s Family Protection tools, allows one person in a group to act as an administrator and monitor suspicious calls targeting other members. If a potentially fraudulent call is detected, the admin receives an alert and can intervene, including ending the call remotely if necessary.

The system is designed to help tech-savvy users protect relatives—particularly older family members or those less familiar with digital scams—from increasingly sophisticated fraud attempts. Users can create a group with up to five members, enabling the administrator to monitor scam alerts and take action when a risky call appears.

Truecaller said the feature initially launched in several pilot markets including Sweden, Chile, Malaysia and Kenya. Following early testing, the company has begun expanding the capability globally, including to India, its largest market.

The remote call-ending function currently works for family members using Android devices, though administrators can still receive scam alerts regardless of whether members use Android or iOS smartphones.

Truecaller, which has more than 450 million users worldwide, has increasingly positioned itself as a broader communications safety platform rather than just a caller-ID service. The company tracks millions of suspected scam calls daily using its large crowdsourced database of spam and fraud numbers.

With scam calls rising globally, the new family-focused feature aims to give households an additional layer of protection by allowing one trusted person to oversee call safety for others.
