Stack Overflow Unveils “Stack Internal”: A Trusted AI Knowledge Layer for Enterprise Teams

Stack Overflow has officially launched Stack Internal, the next evolution of its enterprise knowledge platform (formerly Stack Overflow for Teams), designed specifically for the AI era.

Stack Internal combines human insight with AI automation to create a “trusted knowledge intelligence layer” that delivers accurate, validated organisational knowledge into developers’ workflows.

With AI adoption rising, Stack Overflow is tackling a key pain point: lack of trust. In its 2025 Developer Survey, the company found that 46% of developers don’t trust AI-generated output, citing hallucinations and unreliable information.

Stack Internal addresses this problem by ingesting content from tools like Microsoft Teams and Confluence, then using AI to structure it and human review to validate it.

A central feature is the Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, which connects AI tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, and Cursor to an organisation’s verified knowledge base in Stack Internal.

This bidirectional link enables workflow integration, reduces hallucinations, and keeps shared knowledge up-to-date. For Microsoft 365 users, there’s a dedicated MCP server that integrates directly with Microsoft Copilot, ensuring secure, verified AI responses.

“Powered by AI and human-verified knowledge, Stack Internal ensures that organisational knowledge is not just accurate, but is continuously enriched and lets teams accelerate innovation and unlock new opportunities for learning and productivity,” Jody Bailey, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Stack Overflow, said.

Stack Internal runs with enterprise-grade security, ensuring that sensitive corporate knowledge remains private and that no external AI models train on proprietary data.

By centralising and validating knowledge, Stack Internal aims to make teams more productive, accelerate onboarding, and empower technologists to leverage AI confidently and responsibly.
