Perplexity’s agentic AI browser, Comet, is preparing to make its debut on Android, with the company quietly sending early-access invites to select users.

The rollout marks the first time Android users will be able to try the AI-powered browser, previously available only to certain Windows and Mac users on an invite-only basis before becoming more widely accessible.

Users interested in early access can register via the Google Play Store or the Comet website, though Perplexity is prioritizing paid subscribers and frequent users. “Comet Android early invites are going out… your Perplexity Android usage and Pro/Max user status” will determine access, CEO Aravind Srinivas said on X.

Comet differentiates itself from traditional browsers like Chrome and Firefox by offering a generative AI–centred browsing experience. Instead of tabs and manual searches, users can directly ask questions about the webpage they are viewing or perform multi-step tasks using Comet’s AI assistant.

Last week, Perplexity said it had “completely reimagined” the Comet Assistant, upgrading it with features that work across multiple tabs and help users with job searches, travel planning, and more. The company claims the new assistant performs 23% better than its predecessor.

Comet’s rapid evolution positions it as a serious challenger to Google Chrome, which still dominates with over 60% market share. The competition has intensified with OpenAI’s launch of ChatGPT Atlas, which integrates ChatGPT directly into the browser and includes its own built-in AI agent for tasks like event planning and booking appointments.

The AI browser battle is officially underway — and now, Android users are getting a front-row seat.
