Oracle Introduces MCP Server in SQLcl to Supercharge AI-Asks-to-DB Workflows
The MCP Server for Oracle Database enables users to query data using natural language.

Oracle has unveiled its new Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server for Oracle Database, now integrated into SQLcl, allowing AI agents to securely connect and interact with Oracle databases using natural language prompts.
The MCP Server acts as a bridge between your database and AI assistants, enabling seamless query execution, report generation, and data manipulation—no SQL expertise required.
"Oracle evaluated MCP and has integrated it into our core developer tools, making the Oracle Database immediately available on any platform supporting MCP. This integration is made available via our modern command line to the Oracle Database, Oracle SQLcl," Oracle said in a blog post.
The MCP Server for Oracle Database enables users to query data using natural language. The server translates prompts into SQL, simplifying complex tasks like diagnostics, schema summarisation, and query generation.
It supports both read and write operations, letting users take action—like creating indexes or optimising workloads—via AI assistants. Strict security is maintained with access controls and isolated schemas.
Prebuilt and customisable skills allow developers to tailor interactions. Oracle says this is part of a broader effort to bring AI-driven access and reasoning to enterprise data across its entire cloud and database portfolio.
