OpenAI Rolls Out o3-pro Model, However, Delays Open-Weights Launch
The new model excels in academic tasks and integrates with tools for web browsing, file analysis, Python use, and memory personalisation.

OpenAI has launched its latest language model, o3-pro, for all ChatGPT Pro and Team users, replacing the previous o1-pro. The model is now available via the model picker, with Enterprise and Edu users set to gain access next week.
Built on the same foundation as o3, o3-pro offers stronger performance across science, education, coding, data analysis, and writing.
Like o1-pro, the new model excels in academic tasks and integrates with tools for web browsing, file analysis, Python use, and memory personalisation.
"OpenAI o3-pro has access to tools that make ChatGPT useful—it can search the web, analyze files, reason about visual inputs, use Python, personalize responses using memory, and more," OpenAI said.
Because you all asked: we're going to double the rate limits for o3 for Plus users. Rolling out as we speak. Now go do awesome stuff with it!

OpenAI also slashed o3 pricing by 80%, while o3-pro is offered at $20/million tokens for input and $80 for output—87% cheaper than o1-pro.
Meanwhile, CEO Sam Altman announced a delay in releasing OpenAI’s open-weights model due to a major research breakthrough, now expected later this summer.
"We are going to take a little more time with our open-weights model, i.e. expect it later this summer but not June," OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said on X.
Recently, the company said that it has surpassed $10 billion in annual recurring revenue (ARR), less than three years after launching ChatGPT.
The figure includes revenue from ChatGPT consumer and business products and its API, but excludes licensing fees from Microsoft and one-time deals.
