OpenAI Offers One-Year Free ChatGPT Go Access in India Ahead of DevDay Exchange

OpenAI has announced that users in India will receive free access to ChatGPT Go for one year, starting November 4, coinciding with the company’s first DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru.

ChatGPT Go, launched in India in August, is a paid plan that provides expanded access to OpenAI’s advanced tools — including higher message limits, more image generations, longer memory, and support for file and image uploads — all powered by GPT-5.

The free one-year offer will apply to all Indian users who sign up during the limited promotional window.

“The adoption and creativity we’ve seen from users in India have been inspiring. We’re making ChatGPT Go freely available for a year to help more people across India easily access and benefit from advanced AI,” Nick Turley, OpenAI’s Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, said.

India is now OpenAI’s second-largest and fastest-growing market. The company said that within a month of ChatGPT Go’s launch, paid subscriptions in India more than doubled.

OpenAI noted that this initiative supports its India-first commitment and aligns with the government’s IndiaAI Mission, emphasising inclusive access to AI tools.

The company is also expanding its local footprint, with plans to open an office in New Delhi, even as rival Anthropic prepares to establish operations in Bengaluru.
