Netrasemi Launches India-Built AI Chip for Smart Cameras and Edge Devices
The company formally began the A2000 program in 2023, although its foundational work on silicon IP and AI-focused chip architecture started several years earlier.
Indian semiconductor startup Netrasemi has announced the successful silicon bring-up of its flagship Edge AI System-on-Chip (SoC), NETRA A2000.
The company said the NETRA A2000 is now available for customers and represents a significant step in commercialising its in-house AI and vision processing technologies.
The Edge AI chip is designed for applications such as AI surveillance cameras, intelligent video gateways and Edge AI boxes.
“This is a proud milestone for Netrasemi. We are excited to announce that our flagship Edge AI System-on-Chip, the NETRA A2000, has achieved successful silicon bring-up and available for customers,” Jyothis Indirabhai, CEO and Co-founder of Netrasemi, said.
The company formally began the A2000 program in 2023, although its foundational work on silicon IP and AI-focused chip architecture started several years earlier through sustained investments in internal R&D.
According to Netrasemi, the NETRA A2000 introduces several “firsts” for India, including an AI/ML processor developed in the country, a vision SoC with integrated video analytics acceleration, and a chip built on an advanced 12nm process node using the company’s proprietary AI and vision IP portfolio.
The company acknowledged that product qualification, ecosystem enablement and global market acceptance remain key challenges, but said increasing customer interest and support from India’s semiconductor ecosystem are strengthening its confidence.
“This milestone is also a reflection of the vision behind the India Semiconductor Mission. We are deeply grateful to Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology for its support through the DLI scheme,” Indirabhai said.
Netrasemi said it is currently working with select customers and ecosystem partners as it prepares the platform for full-scale production deployment.
Alongside the A2000, the company also revealed that it has taped out the NETRA R1000, an ultra power-efficient AI microcontroller for AIoT applications expected to return from fabrication in Q3 2026.
It is also developing the NETRA A4000, an Edge AI server chip targeted for production in 2027.
Last year, Netrasemi secured ₹107 crore in a Series A round led by Zoho Corporation and Unicorn India Ventures.
