Meta Platforms Acqui-Hires Dreamer Team to Boost AI Agent Push

Meta Platforms has acquired the core team of agentic AI startup Dreamer in an acqui-hire deal, as it ramps up efforts to build advanced AI agents, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The Dreamer team, including former Meta and Google executive Hugo Barra, will join Meta’s Superintelligence Labs under Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang. They are expected to work on AI agents—autonomous systems capable of performing tasks with minimal human input.

Dreamer, which developed a platform enabling users to create their own AI agents, will remain a standalone entity. Meta has secured a non-exclusive license to its technology, while investors are expected to receive returns exceeding their initial funding.

Co-founder and CEO David Singleton confirmed the deal, saying: “It was clear right away that we share the same vision of the future: one where billions of people have the power to create software that makes their lives better.” Barra added, “The idea behind Dreamer is simple: every person should have the power to create software that makes their lives better. And personally, I'm really psyched to be rejoining so many old friends at Meta!”

The move underscores Meta’s growing investment in AI agents. The company has been aggressively expanding in the space, including prior acquisitions and internal development, as it seeks to compete in the next wave of AI-driven computing.

Earlier this month, Meta also acquired Moltbook, an experimental social network designed for AI agents to interact with each other. The acquisition would bring Moltbook’s creators, Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr, into Meta’s Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL).
