Meta Launches a ChatGPT Rival App

At Llama Con, Meta (previously Facebook) has introduced a standalone AI app. Previously, the company integrated Meta AI into WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger.

Powered by Llama 4, the new app offers users direct access to Meta AI, functioning much like the ChatGPT app and other AI assistant platforms.

According to the company, Meta AI offers more personalised responses by tapping into information users have already shared, such as their profiles, preferences, and online interactions through their social media accounts.

However, for now, this personalised functionality is available in the U.S. and Canada. Users can also proactively share new details with Meta AI to enhance future interactions.

"We’re using our decades of work personalising people’s experiences on our platforms to make Meta AI more personal. You can tell Meta AI to remember certain things about you (like that you love to travel and learn new languages), and it can also pick up important details based on context," Meta said in a blog post.

The app also features a Discover feed, where users can optionally share their AI interactions with friends — for example, asking the AI to describe them in three emojis and posting the result.
