Karnataka Lands 3 New Semiconductor Projects
The investments come from Applied Materials India, Lam Research, and Bharat Semi Systems

The Karnataka government has approved three major chip projects worth over ₹23,000 crore. The investments come from Applied Materials India, Lam Research, and Bharat Semi Systems, and are expected to create over 3,500 jobs across Bengaluru and Mysuru.
These projects will focus on advanced chip technologies, silicon ingot production, and compound semiconductors.
"Applied Materials India will set up India’s first-of-its-kind R&D Fab—Innovation Center for Semiconductor Manufacturing (ICSM)—in Bengaluru. Spread across 10 acres with ₹4,851 Cr investment, it will create ~1,500 jobs and become a collaborative platform for next-gen chip and display innovations," IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge posted on X.
On the other hand, Lam Research will establish two major units in Karnataka: an advanced R&D lab with an investment of ₹6,790 crore, and a semiconductor silicon component manufacturing facility with an investment of ₹9,111 crore.
Together, these projects are expected to create 1,400 jobs and bring cutting-edge capabilities in 2nm chip technology and silicon ingot production to the state.
Lastly,"Bharat Semi Systems will establish an integrated design manufacturing semiconductor unit including both a design + Fab facility in Mysuru with ₹2,342 Cr investment. It will focus on compound semiconductors like silicon carbide and gallium nitride—critical for defence, telecom and climate resilience creating 620+ jobs," the minister added.
