Hyderabad Startup Equal Launches AI Call Assistant to Tackle Spam and Unwanted Calls

Hyderabad-based startup Equal today announced the launch of Equal AI- an AI-powered call assistant- which will debut on October 2 through an early access programme for the first 10,000 Android users in Delhi NCR.

Unlike caller ID apps, Equal AI actively answers unknown calls, speaks naturally to identify the caller and purpose, and decides whether to connect, take a message, or filter the call.

The launch comes as India, with nearly a billion smartphone users, continues to face one of the highest rates of spam calls globally. The startup states that more than 60% of users receive three or more spam calls daily, with TRAI recording over 7.9 lakh complaints against unregistered telemarketers in just the first half of 2024. Despite DND registries and caller ID apps, unwanted calls remain a major pain point.

In controlled trials, Equal AI reduced interruptions by 87%, cut delivery coordination time by 73%, and detected spam with 94% accuracy—all without answering calls from saved contacts.

“India’s near billion smartphone users face one of the most common and frustrating problems of modern life, unwanted calls by telemarketing, delivery agents and scamsters,” said Keshav Reddy, Founder of Equal AI. “Equal AI takes the call for you. It listens, speaks, transcribes, and shares what’s happening live—so you decide if it’s worth your time. It’s like having your own personal secretary—giving back what matters to you most: time!”

Equal AI will launch in Delhi NCR on October 2, with phased rollouts to Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad later in 2025, followed by iOS support. The company aims for 1 million daily active users by mid-2026.

Founded in 2022 by Keshav Reddy and Rajeev Ranjan and joined by Krishna Prasad in 2024, Equal is backed by marquee investors such as Prosus, Blume, DST Global Partners, Tomales Bay Capital, Valiant Capital, Binny Bansal, Karan Adani, Kunal Shah, Kunal Bahl, Nikhil Kamath and Parth Jindal.
