Google Unveils “Summer of Security” with AI-Powered Cyber Defenses
At the heart of the rollout is Big Sleep, an autonomous AI agent from DeepMind and Project Zero.

Google has launched its “Summer of Security” initiative, introducing several AI-driven tools designed to enhance digital defense, ahead of Black Hat USA and DEF CON 33.
At the heart of the rollout is Big Sleep, an autonomous AI agent from DeepMind and Project Zero. It recently detected and neutralised a critical SQLite vulnerability (CVE‑2025‑6965) before it was exploited—a milestone in AI-led cybersecurity.
“Most recently, based on intel from Google Threat Intelligence, the Big Sleep agent discovered an SQLite vulnerability (CVE-2025-6965) — a critical security flaw, and one that was known only to threat actors and was at risk of being exploited,” Kent Walker, President of Global Affairs, Google & Alphabet, said in a blog post.
"We believe this is a first for an AI agent - definitely not the last - giving cybersecurity defenders new tools to stop threats before they’re widespread," Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said in a social media post.
Google also upgraded Timesketch, its open-source digital forensics platform, with Sec-Gemini, enabling automated analysis of logs to reduce incident response time.
Another in-house tool, FACADE, has been running since 2018 to detect insider threats using novel contrastive learning, without relying on historical data.
To showcase these advancements, Google will host agentic AI demonstrations and CTF challenges in collaboration with Airbus at DEF CON 33. The final phase of the DARPA‑sponsored AI Cyber Challenge will also be unveiled.
