Google Brings Gemini AI to the Big Screen with Google TV
Gemini introduces a conversational layer, letting viewers engage in free-flowing discussions with their TVs.

Sept. 23, 2025 — Google is bringing its powerful AI assistant, Gemini, to the living room with the launch of Gemini for TV, expanding the role of smart TVs beyond simple voice commands.
Till now, Google TV has helped users discover entertainment, while Google Assistant has managed tasks like recommendations or controlling smart devices. Now, Gemini introduces a conversational layer, letting viewers engage in free-flowing discussions with their TVs.
With a simple “Hey Google” or the microphone button, users can search for shows, catch up on missed episodes, or get answers to complex questions.
Examples range from personalised movie recommendations — “Find me something to watch with my wife, I like dramas but she likes comedies” — to contextual searches like “What happened in the last season of Outlander?” or “What’s the new hospital drama everyone’s talking about?” Gemini also integrates reviews and suggestions, making entertainment discovery easier.
"Get help finding the perfect show for whatever mood you’re in, brainstorm a family trip or answer complex homework questions. Just say “Hey Google” or press the microphone button on your TV remote to unlock a new world of possibilities," Shalini GovilPai, VP, Google TV, wrote in a blog post.
Beyond streaming, Gemini extends into learning and everyday tasks. Families can use it for homework help, cooking recipes, or skill-building with supporting YouTube videos displayed directly on TV.
The feature launches first on the TCL QM9K series, with rollout later this year to devices like the Google TV Streamer, Walmart onn. 4K Pro, Hisense 2025 lineup, and additional TCL models.
Google says Gemini for TV is just the beginning, with more capabilities planned as part of its ecosystem powering 300 million active Google TV and Android TV devices worldwide.
