GitHub Launches AI-Powered App for Teams Collaboration

GitHub has unveiled a reimagined GitHub app for Microsoft Teams, designed to bring the power of GitHub Copilot directly into workplace conversations. Currently in preview, the app enables developers to collaborate on code, automate tasks, and manage pull requests without leaving Teams.

"With the new GitHub app for Teams, you can ship features faster, fix bugs, expand test coverage, and improve documentation—all through conversation, helping you move from “we should” to “it’s done,” Sujeet Mehta, VP of Engineering, Microsoft Teams, said.

Acting like an extra developer embedded in the workflow, the app allows teams to ship features faster, fix bugs, expand test coverage, and improve documentation simply by conversing in Teams channels.

Today we are announcing two new GitHub Copilot experiences! 1️⃣A reimagined GitHub app for Microsoft Teams 2️⃣Azure Boards now connects directly with the Copilot coding agent The way software gets built is changing. Developers are not just writing code anymore. They are orchestrating workflows, tools, and teams. Too often the work gets stuck in the seams with tickets in one place, conversations in another, and code somewhere else. These updates make Copilot a true teammate embedded end to end in your workflow. Less time managing and more time building. 🔗https://lnkd.in/gxuZrJWa 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g-Gnv9_D | 22 comments on LinkedIn

The app automates routine development tasks, including writing code, opening PRs, and requesting reviews, while maintaining compliance with repository policies such as branch protections. It also leverages repository awareness to surface relevant files and history, making it easier for teams to track issues and progress.

A typical workflow can now move seamlessly from identifying a bug to deploying a fix—all within Teams. Developers can mention @GitHub to assign tasks, monitor updates, and collaborate in real time.

The app replaces the previous GitHub for Teams integration, now renamed GitHub Notifications, which will focus exclusively on surfacing alerts and updates.
