GitHub Launches Agent HQ, a Unified Platform for AI Coding Agents

GitHub today unveiled Agent HQ, a next-generation “mission control” dashboard that lets developers orchestrate multiple AI coding agents from different vendors—all within GitHub’s ecosystem.

Agent HQ enables users to integrate and manage agents built on platforms such as OpenAI’s Codex, Anthropic’s Claude, Google LLC’s Jules, xAI, and Cognition’s Devin—the first time GitHub has embraced a multi-vendor agent model.

"Agent HQ transforms GitHub into an open ecosystem that unites every agent on a single platform. Over the coming months, coding agents from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Cognition, xAI, and more will become available directly within GitHub as part of your paid GitHub Copilot subscription," GitHub said in a blog post.

Developers subscribed to GitHub Copilot will gain early access to the dashboard, where they can assign tasks, compare outputs from different agents in parallel, and select the best result.

GitHub describes Agent HQ as a control plane for “any agent, any way you work.” Integrated features include a new “Plan Mode” within Visual Studio Code that asks clarifying questions before generating code, plus expanded code-review support that lets agents use tools like CodeQL to surface bugs or vulnerabilities.

“Mission Control gives every developer a place to steer a fleet of agents, following them wherever they work. Plan Mode in VS Code gives context right before a line of code is even written. Code Quality and a metrics dashboard enables real governance, bringing greater confidence in shipping healthy code. Control plane so enterprises can stay in command. An expanding roster of partner agents available and coming to Copilot subscriptions. And SO much more,” said Kyle Daigle, COO of GitHub.

Analysts say this move positions GitHub not just as a provider of a single AI assistant, but as the orchestration layer for the growing ecosystem of developer-facing agents.

As enterprise software teams increasingly experiment with multiple AI assistants, Agent HQ aims to simplify deployment and governance—allowing organisations to channel agentic workflows while retaining oversight.

GitHub’s long-term goal is to make its platform the one place where developers and AI agents collaborate—and where enterprises manage both together.
