GitHub Copilot Adds Grok Code Fast 1 in Public Preview for Developers
For individual paid users, the model can be activated directly from the Visual Studio Code model picker.

GitHub has announced that Grok Code Fast 1, the latest coding model from xAI, is now available as an opt-in public preview for users of GitHub Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise plans in Visual Studio Code.
Last week, GitHub made Gemini 2.5 Pro available in CoPilot for its premium subscribers.
The Grok Code Fast 1 rollout will be gradual, so developers may need to check back if the feature is not yet visible.
xAI models are also supported in individual Copilot plans through the Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) option, which allows users to connect their own xAI API key.
For Copilot Business and Enterprise, administrators must first enable the Grok Code Fast 1 policy in Copilot settings before it appears in the model picker for all organisation members.
For individual paid users, the model can be activated directly from the Visual Studio Code model picker with a one-time confirmation.
BYOK users can enable Grok Code Fast 1 by managing models, selecting xAI, and entering their API key.
Earlier this month, GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke announced he will step down from his leadership role at the Microsoft-owned platform by the end of 2025 to “become a founder again,” according to his blog post.
