Gemini 2.5 Pro is Now Available in GitHub CoPilot
Users can now select it in Copilot Chat across popular environments like VS Code, GitHub.com, VS, JetBrains IDEs, and mobile apps.

GitHub has expanded model options for its premium Copilot subscribers—Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise—by adding access to Google’s most advanced AI model yet, Gemini 2.5 Pro.
Users can now select it in Copilot Chat across popular environments like VS Code, GitHub.com, VS, JetBrains IDEs, and mobile apps.
"Copilot Business and Enterprise organization administrators will need to grant access to Gemini 2.5 Pro in Copilot through a policy in Copilot settings. Once enabled, users will see the model in the model selector in Copilot Chat," GitHub said in a blog post.
Despite Gemini 2.5 Pro’s power, many developers still favor Claude Sonnet 4—especially for coding tasks. Benchmarks reveal that Claude outpaces Gemini in the SWE‑bench (72.7% vs. 63.2%), and independent testing shows it completes tasks nearly three times faster with more reliable precision.
Still, providing Gemini 2.5 Pro inside Copilot gives subscribers more choice. That said, there’s no need to pay: developers have free access to Gemini via Gemini CLI and Gemini Code Assist, both available at no cost with generous limits—like 60 requests per minute and a million‑token context window.
