Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4 Now Available in GitHub Copilot
Claude Sonnet 4 is being rolled out across all paid GitHub Copilot plans

Anthropic’s newest AI models, Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4, are now generally available in GitHub Copilot, expanding the coding assistant’s capabilities with powerful AI tools for developers.
Claude Opus 4, Anthropic’s most advanced model to date, excels at complex problem-solving and is designed to power sophisticated AI agents. It brings cutting-edge reasoning and long-form task execution to software development.
Meanwhile, Claude Sonnet 4, a refined version of the widely appreciated Claude Sonnet 3.7, is optimized for everyday coding workflows, striking a balance between performance and practicality.
Both models are hybrid thinkers, capable of extended reasoning, logical summarisation, and even image analysis via vision support—though the vision feature remains in public preview.
GitHub Copilot Access
Claude Sonnet 4 is being rolled out across all paid GitHub Copilot plans, while Claude Opus 4 will be available on Copilot Enterprise and Pro+ plans.
Developers can access the models in Copilot Chat on platforms including GitHub.com, VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode, Eclipse, and GitHub Mobile.
Enabling Access for Teams
For Copilot Enterprise users, administrators must enable access through the Copilot settings panel. Once configured, team members can choose the new models from the chat model selector in their development environments and mobile apps.
The addition of Anthropic’s Claude 4 models marks a significant enhancement to GitHub Copilot’s capabilities, enabling more advanced AI-assisted development across a wide range of use cases.
