Zuckerberg Plans Crypto Integration for Meta’s 3 Bn Users

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly preparing to add cryptocurrency support across the company’s platforms, according to industry leaks cited by Forbes on May 11, 2025.

According to five sources with knowledge of the matter, the company is in talks with crypto firms to introduce stablecoins for managing payouts.

The report stated that Meta has also hired a vice president of product with a background in crypto to lead the initiative.

The sources, known to Fortune, requested anonymity due to the confidential nature of the discussions.

The development from Meta comes after three years of giving up on its ambitious crypto project dubbed Libra. Meta's cryptocurrency initiative, originally launched as Libra in 2019 and later rebranded as Diem, was an ambitious attempt to revolutionise global payments.

However, facing significant regulatory pushback, the project was ultimately sold to Silvergate Capital in early 2022.

Meta's entry into the crypto space would significantly boost investors' sentiment in the space. Recently, Bitcoin has already surged past $100,000—up 30% from April lows—with daily trading volume spiking nearly 24% to $48.42 billion, as market optimism builds.
