Zendesk Moves to Self-Improving AI Agents with Proposed Forethought Acquisition
Zendesk expects AI agents to manage more service interactions than human agents as early as 2026.
Zendesk has announced plans to acquire AI startup Forethought as part of a push to expand its Resolution Platform with self-improving AI agents designed to automate customer service interactions.
The company said the proposed deal will accelerate its vision of an “agentic service” era, where autonomous AI systems handle a growing share of customer support tasks. Zendesk expects AI agents to manage more service interactions than human agents as early as 2026.
“Forethought's advanced capabilities perfectly align with our vision for agentic service. Together, we will be scaling self-improving AI that learns from every interaction. But technology is just the means. Resolution is our identity, and loyalty is the outcome. This proposed acquisition will ensure our customers have the absolute best tools to drive measurable growth in the AI era,” said Tom Eggemeier, CEO of Zendesk.
Zendesk said its AI agents already resolve more than 80% of customer interactions end-to-end across its customer base. The system uses what the company calls a Resolution Learning Loop, allowing AI models to improve automatically by learning from real customer conversations without requiring manual retraining.
With Forethought’s technology integrated, the platform is expected to support more complex workflows, including autonomous execution of multi-step tasks across messaging, voice and enterprise systems. The AI agents will also be able to identify workflow gaps, generate new procedures and test optimisations before deploying them.
"With Zendesk's platform, resources, and global reach, we will bring our technology to many more organisations around the world, move faster on innovation, and continue pushing the boundaries of what AI can do in customer experience. For our customers, this means the same innovative products and teams they trust today will be strengthened by the scale, platform, and investment of Zendesk," said Sami Ghoche, Co-Founder and CEO, Forethought.
Zendesk said the acquisition would significantly accelerate its AI product roadmap while allowing Forethought customers to continue using the platform with expanded capabilities backed by Zendesk’s global scale.
