xAI Eyes Massive $15 Bn Raise in December to Buy More GPUs

Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI is reportedly set to close a staggering $15 billion funding round in December 2025, a move that could value the company at roughly $230 billion pre-money — more than double its valuation earlier this year.

In July, xAI secured $10 billion—split between $5 billion equity and $5 billion loans backed by collateral like GPUs—raising major capital to accelerate its artificial intelligence projects, Morgan Stanley announced.

According to insiders cited by media outlets, the fresh capital will largely fund the expansion of xAI’s AI infrastructure — especially GPUs required for large language models — and accelerate development of its flagship projects such as the “Colossus” supercomputer in Memphis.

The deadline for investors to commit funds has reportedly been extended to December 19, 2025, giving backers an additional window to enter.

Despite the bullish funding plans, founder Elon Musk publicly dismissed earlier reports about the raise as “false,” and the company has offered minimal direct comment.

Analysts say the fresh funds could enable xAI to accelerate model training, infrastructure build-out, and expand ambitions against rivals such as OpenAI and Anthropic.
