# WordPress Unveils Experimental AI Tool ‘Telex’ to Simplify Website Building

WordPress, the world’s most widely used web publishing platform, has [introduced](https://techcrunch.com/2025/09/02/wordpress-shows-off-telex-its-experimental-ai-development-tool/?ref=theleftshift.com) an early version of its new AI-powered development tool, **Telex**, at the WordCamp US 2025 conference in Portland. 

The tool, described by WordPress co-founder and Automattic CEO [Matt Mullenweg](https://www.linkedin.com/in/mattm/?ref=theleftshift.com) as a “V0 or Lovable, but specifically for WordPress,” draws inspiration from emerging “vibe coding” platforms that allow developers to create software using natural language prompts.

Earlier this year, WordPress also introduced [a new AI-powered website builder ](https://www.theleftshift.com/wordpress-com-unveils-free-ai-website-builder-to-simplify-site-creation/)designed to help anyone — from freelancers to bloggers to entrepreneurs — quickly launch a professional-looking website through a simple, conversational interface.

Telex enables users to generate **Gutenberg blocks** — the modular components that make up WordPress sites — simply by typing a prompt. The tool then returns a .zip file that can be installed as a plug-in on WordPress or run directly in **WordPress Playground**, the browser-based version of the platform. 

While still labeled “experimental” and available at **telex.automattic.ai**, early tests have shown mixed results, with some projects requiring fixes to function properly.

Mullenweg acknowledged Telex is still a prototype but emphasised its long-term potential. *“When we think about democratized publishing, like embedded in that, is very core to WordPress’ mission… made it accessible in a radically open way, in every language, at low cost, open source,”* he said.

Alongside Telex, Mullenweg showcased smaller AI experiments, including a browser-based WordPress assistant, and highlighted his enthusiasm for AI-driven publishing tools.
