VTU and QNu Labs Launch Quantum Communication Lab to Train Future Tech Leaders
The new lab will offer hands-on experience to over four lakh students across VTU’s 200 affiliated colleges

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has announced a partnership with quantum cryptography startup QNu Labs to establish a quantum communication lab at its research and industry incubation centre in Bengaluru.
“This isn’t just about setting up a lab; it’s about creating a sustainable ecosystem where students and faculty will actually work with quantum systems and understand what this technology means for India’s future,” said Sunil Gupta, CEO of QNu Labs.
Earlier this year, QNu Labs raised ₹60 crore in Series A funding and launched QNu Academy, alongside quantum-safe cybersecurity platforms QConnect and QVerse.
The initiative, unveiled at the India Mobile Congress 2025 in Delhi, aims to prepare students and faculty for careers in the rapidly advancing field of quantum technology.
The new lab will offer hands-on experience to over four lakh students across VTU’s 200 affiliated colleges, supporting training, research, and curriculum development aligned with India’s National Quantum Mission and Karnataka’s goal of becoming a hub for quantum innovation.
Commander Devendra Singh, VTU’s Director of Research and Development, said the collaboration will also strengthen “strategic military capabilities” and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
The partnership includes the launch of minor degree programmes in quantum technology, with plans for a dedicated master’s course in the coming years. VTU will train faculty across its network to deliver specialised instruction and supervise quantum research projects.
“Quantum technology is no longer a distant future; it’s here, and our students need to be ready for it,” said Ajith Padyana, Director of the VTU-VRIF Centre for Deep Technologies.
Serving as a shared facility for all VTU-affiliated institutions, the lab will promote collaboration between academia and industry while strengthening India’s defence and cybersecurity capabilities.
Earlier this year, the Bengaluru-based startup launched QConnect and QVerse– solutions are designed for seamless deployment across critical sectors like defence, government, telecom, BFSI, healthcare, energy, and more.
