US Transportation Dept Taps Salesforce's Agentforce to Modernize America’s Transportation Systems
Agentforce will autonomously manage routine citizen requests, analyze weather and traffic data to issue real-time safety alerts, and review federal grant applications to speed approval cycles.
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has expanded its agency-wide digital transformation with Salesforce, adopting AI agents to strengthen national transportation safety, streamline public services, and accelerate delivery of federal infrastructure funding.
DOT has long faced challenges from siloed data, duplicative systems, and manual workloads that slow critical operations. The department is now consolidating systems onto Salesforce’s Agentforce 360 Platform and deploying AI agents to reduce operational friction across air, road, rail, and maritime networks.
“To deliver on our mission of building a safe, efficient, and modern transportation system, we have to start with making technology our biggest asset,” said Pavan Pidugu, Chief Digital & Information Officer of DOT. “We needed to make a strategic shift to deliver on our mission: adding AI at the core of everything we’re doing. Now, we’re not just deploying new technology, we’re empowering our agency to work more effectively and, most importantly, ensuring the safety and future of our country’s transportation system.”
Agentforce will autonomously manage routine citizen requests, analyze weather and traffic data to issue real-time safety alerts, and review federal grant applications to speed approval cycles.
“It's mind-blowing what the number of actual days of work is that we can save by doing this,” Pidugu added.
DOT will also use Data 360 to unify the department’s systems within Salesforce Government Cloud, enabling secure, agency-wide data access. The modernization extends to complaints management, safety inspections via FMCSA data-sharing, and consolidation of more than 10 legacy grant systems into one platform.
“Agentforce is fueling a new era of government modernization, and DOT offers a clear blueprint for how agents can improve productivity and accelerate citizen processes,” said Kendall Collins, CEO of Government Cloud at Salesforce. “With a secure and reliable CRM foundation and trusted AI agents, we’re helping the USDOT deliver a safer, more agile, and responsive transportation system for every American."
