US Govt Signs GenAI Deal with Meta and xAI

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) is accelerating its AI ambitions on multiple fronts, forging parallel deals with Meta and xAI to embed advanced AI models across federal agencies.

Earlier this week, the GSA announced a OneGov initiative with Meta that grants all federal departments streamlined access to Llama, Meta’s open-source AI model suite. The partnership eliminates the need for individual agencies to negotiate separate contracts, aiming to fast-track AI adoption across government operations.

Simultaneously, xAI—Elon Musk’s AI company—has secured a landmark agreement with the GSA to supply its Grok AI chatbot to federal agencies until March 2027.

Under the “Grok for Government” framework, agencies can license Grok at just $0.42 per agency, with options to upgrade to FedRAMP-compliant enterprise versions. xAI will provide engineering support to help agencies deploy and optimize Grok for mission tasks.

Previously, GSA has added OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Anthropic’s Claude to its Multiple Award Schedule, allowing federal agencies to procure their AI tools under pre-negotiated, streamlined contracts.
