Uber and WeRide to Expand Robotaxi Partnership to 15 More Cities Globally

Uber and Chinese autonomous vehicle company WeRide have announced plans to expand their commercial robotaxi partnership to 15 additional cities over the next five years.

As part of the expansion, the companies plan to enter several cities in Europe, with a focus on markets outside of China and the United States.

Under the agreement, WeRide’s autonomous vehicles will be accessible through the Uber app. The partnership mirrors Uber’s collaboration with Waymo in the U.S., where Uber manages the ride-hailing network and fleet logistics, while the autonomous driving company provides the underlying AV technology.

“ Expanding into new cities across multiple continents reflects both companies’ confidence in our technology and our shared commitment to innovative, sustainable transportation solutions. This expansion aligns with WeRide’s ambitious strategy for global growth – to make autonomous driving solutions more affordable and accessible to people worldwide,” Tony Han, founder and CEO of WeRide, said.

The move follows the launch of their joint robotaxi service in Abu Dhabi five months ago. The companies also revealed plans to expand the service to Dubai in the near future.

In Abu Dhabi, Uber and WeRide work with local operator Tawasul Transport to manage fleet operations.

Earlier this month, Uber Technologies also announced a strategic agreement with Chinese startup Momentato to introduce autonomous vehicles to the Uber platform, in international markets outside the US and China.

First deployment for the partnership will take place in Europe at the beginning of 2026, with onboard safety operators.
