The Tata Group, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and OpenAI have announced a multi-dimensional strategic partnership aimed at accelerating artificial intelligence adoption across India and global markets, spanning enterprise transformation, infrastructure development and workforce skilling.
Under the collaboration, several thousand Tata Group employees will gain access to Enterprise ChatGPT, while TCS plans to use OpenAI’s Codex tools to enhance software engineering productivity.
The companies will also jointly develop industry-specific agentic AI solutions, combining OpenAI’s advanced models with TCS’s sector expertise to deploy tailored enterprise applications worldwide.
The partnership includes joint go-to-market initiatives to help organizations deploy and scale AI systems across industries. TCS will support customers globally by integrating OpenAI’s platforms into enterprise workflows and digital transformation programs.
A major focus is infrastructure. TCS’s HyperVault unit and OpenAI have agreed to a multi-year plan to build AI infrastructure in India, beginning with a 100-megawatt capacity that can scale to 1 gigawatt. The facilities are intended to support next-generation AI workloads and strengthen India’s position as a global AI hub.
The collaboration also includes a social impact initiative. The OpenAI Foundation and TCS plan to deliver AI training and toolkits for NGOs and youth programs, targeting improved livelihoods for at least one million young people in India.
Sam Altman, CEO, OpenAI, said, “India is already leading the way in AI adoption, and with its talent, ambition, and strong government support, it is well placed to help shape its future. Through OpenAI for India and our partnership with the Tata Group, we’re working together to build the infrastructure, skills, and local partnerships needed to build AI with India, for India, and in India, so that more people across the country can access and benefit from it.”
N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, said, “This deep collaboration between OpenAI and the Tata Group marks a major milestone in India’s vision to become a global leader in AI. We are pleased to partner with OpenAI to create state-of-the-art AI infrastructure in India. This is a unique opportunity for OpenAI and TCS to transform industries. Together we will skill India’s youth and empower them to succeed in the AI era.”
