Tata Communications has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to roll out a high-capacity, AI-optimised long-haul network across India, connecting AWS data centres in Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai to support next-gen cloud and AI workloads.

This project, one of the largest network deployments in the country's history, involves a 7.2 Tbps capacity over 18,000 km of fiber—backed by an estimated ₹430 crore investment—targeted for completion by March 2026.

The ultra-low-latency links are built to support data-intensive applications like generative AI, 5G, and high-performance computing.

“This association marks our largest ever National Long-Distance program and showcases Tata Communications’ unparalleled capability to support large-capacity, complex projects requiring scaled network solutions. By building a tailored network solution we’re ushering in an AI era in India, reinforcing our position as the long-term partner of choice for global technology leaders,” Genius Wong, Executive Vice President, Core and Next-Gen Connectivity Services and Chief Technology Officer, Tata Communications, said.

Jesse Dougherty, vice president of AWS Network Edge Services, called the initiative “designed to support the most data-intensive workloads” and said it will help Indian businesses “innovate at scale with cloud and generative AI,” fueling growth in the nation's digital economy.

This network is poised to become a critical backbone for AI and machine learning across India, enabling faster, more secure innovation in industries like healthcare, finance, and education.
