Salesforce to Acquire Waii to Turn Plain English into Powerful SQL
The acquisition is slated to close in Salesforce’s Q3 FY2026, pending customary approvals.

Salesforce has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Waii, an enterprise-grade natural language-to-SQL platform, in a move aimed at making enterprise data more accessible through conversational AI. The acquisition is slated to close in Salesforce’s Q3 FY2026, pending customary approvals.
Only last week, the San Francisco-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) giant announced that it has a definitive agreement to acquire Bluebirds, an AI-powered prospecting platform designed to help sales teams identify and engage high-potential leads through advanced lead intelligence and data enrichment.
Waii’s core technology converts plain-language questions into complex SQL queries, enabling users to interact with their data naturally and efficiently.
Big news: Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Waii, a leading natural language-to-SQL platform grounded in a self-learning metadata knowledge graph. Waii will supercharge Data Cloud with plain-language access to data, powering agentic workflows and smarter…

With enterprises generating massive volumes of data, accessing insights remains difficult due to technical complexity and disconnected systems. Waii tackles this challenge with a dynamic metadata knowledge graph that maps an organization’s entire data structure, including relationships between tables, business logic, and governance rules. This allows it to deliver deeply contextual and accurate SQL outputs.
“Our vision is to empower every employee, from the boardroom to the frontline, to have a trusted conversation with their data. At Salesforce, we know that a deep understanding of metadata is the key to this future. With Waii, we’re not just augmenting our stack; we’re acquiring the catalyst that makes this vision a reality for our customers,” said Raveendrnathan Loganathan, EVP, Salesforce Data Cloud.
Waii’s platform also features a dialect-aware SQL compiler, built-in optimisation, and full enterprise integration. Its semantic layer enables both users and AI agents to interact seamlessly with diverse data sources.
“In a world where every database speaks a different dialect of SQL, Waii’s metadata knowledge graph will create a unified semantic layer,” said Gunther Hagleitner, co-founder and CEO of Waii. “Joining Salesforce will allow us to bring that mission to millions of users.”
Post-acquisition, Waii will be integrated into Salesforce Data Cloud and power agentic workflows across platforms like Agentforce and Tableau Next. Its technology is expected to form the foundation of Tableau’s new semantic engine, unlocking faster and more intuitive analytics.
Earlier this year, Salesforce also acquired Informatica in a $8 billion deal.
