Ryan Aytay Steps Down as CEO of Salesforce’s Tableau After 19 Years at Company

Ryan Aytay, President and CEO of Tableau, has announced his departure from Salesforce, marking the end of a nearly two-decade career at the cloud software giant.

In a personal note shared on LinkedIn, Aytay said he has decided to “begin a new chapter outside of Salesforce,” adding that he plans to share details of his next role soon.

Aytay joined Salesforce 19 years ago during the company’s early mergers and acquisitions phase, where he worked on integrating new businesses into the Salesforce ecosystem.

Over the years, he went on to hold a series of senior leadership roles, including building and leading strategic partnerships with companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, IBM, and Alibaba.

He later served as co-CEO of Quip, chief business officer to Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, and ultimately as chief revenue officer and CEO of Tableau.

He has led Tableau, Salesforce’s data analytics subsidiary, for the past three to four years, overseeing its evolution as analytics and AI became increasingly central to enterprise decision-making. Aytay described leading Tableau as “one of the great privileges” of his career.

"I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done to help people see, understand, and act on their data in an increasingly intelligent, agentic world. The future of Tableau and Salesforce is incredibly bright, and I’m honored to have been part of the journey," he said.
