AI startup Runway AI Inc. has raised $315 million in a new funding round backed by NVIDIA, AMD Ventures and General Atlantic, as competition intensifies in the fast-growing market for “world models” and generative simulation tools.

Runway said the new funding will be used to advance model development, address technical limitations and expand hiring across engineering and go-to-market teams.

Runway develops AI world models that generate three-dimensional virtual environments from user prompts, enabling developers to simulate real-world scenarios. Its technology is used by customers including Shutterstock and Robinhood, and the company had reportedly targeted $300 million in annualized recurring revenue by the end of 2025.

In December, Runway introduced GWM-1, a model designed to create virtual environments for testing robots and training neural networks. The system allows enterprises to simulate complex settings—such as warehouses—to evaluate how robotic systems interact with objects and workflows.

GWM-1 is built on Gen-4.5, the company’s latest video generation model, which improved rendering of physical dynamics such as motion and fluid behavior but still faces occasional visual inconsistencies.

General Atlantic led the round, following its participation in the company’s previous funding last year. TechCrunch reported that the latest raise values Runway at about $5.3 billion, up from more than $3 billion in 2025.
