OpenAI to Train One Million Teachers in Generative AI Across India
Educational content will be shared via the FutureSkills and iGOT Karmayogi platforms.

OpenAI and the IndiaAI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and IT have launched OpenAI Academy India, marking the platform’s first international rollout.
The company also committed to training one million teachers in generative AI.
The initiative aims to expand AI training across the country, targeting students, developers, educators, officials, nonprofits, and small businesses.
Under a memorandum of understanding, OpenAI will support the IndiaAI Mission’s FutureSkills pillar with both digital and in-person training in English and Hindi, with more languages to follow.
Educational content will be shared via the FutureSkills and iGOT Karmayogi platforms.
OpenAI will also offer $100,000 in API credits to 50 selected startups or fellows, host webinars and workshops in six cities, and organise hackathons across seven states, reaching around 25,000 students. Winners will be invited to OpenAI’s DevDay.
“India is one of the most dynamic countries in the world for AI development, with adoption and innovation accelerating at a remarkable speed. We’re proud to partner with IndiaAI to launch OpenAI Academy India and help more people gain the confidence and skills to use AI meaningfully in their work, communities, and lives,” Jason Kwon, Chief Strategy Officer at OpenAI, said.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw hailed the initiative as a step toward democratising access to AI.
Recently, under the IndiaAI Mission, the government of India selected 4 startups to build India-specific foundational models.
