OpenAI Releases GPT-5 With Major Upgrades, Not AGI Yet
The model delivers faster, more accurate answers while reducing hallucinations and sycophancy.

OpenAI has officially launched GPT-5, its most advanced AI model yet, promising significant improvements across writing, coding, math, health, and visual understanding. The model is now available to all ChatGPT users, with enhanced access for Plus and Pro subscribers. Pro users also get access to GPT-5 Pro, a version designed for more complex and extended reasoning tasks.
GPT-5 introduces a unified architecture featuring a smart core model for general responses, a deeper reasoning model called “GPT‑5 Thinking,” and a dynamic router that selects the most appropriate model based on conversation context. This router evolves by learning from real user signals, such as prompt instructions and feedback.
The model delivers faster, more accurate answers while reducing hallucinations and sycophancy. It particularly excels in ChatGPT’s three most-used areas: writing, coding, and health.
"We’ve made significant advances in reducing hallucinations, improving instruction following, and minimizing sycophancy, while leveling up GPT‑5’s performance in three of ChatGPT’s most common uses: writing, coding, and health," OpenAI said in a blog post.
In coding, GPT‑5 represents a major upgrade, capable of building entire websites or apps with minimal input. It shows enhanced understanding of front-end aesthetics, spacing, and typography, and improves debugging for larger repositories.
Despite its capabilities, GPT‑5 is not being classified as artificial general intelligence (AGI). There was intense speculation that GPT-5 might finally achieve AGI, but OpenAI clarified that while it marks a major leap in intelligence and usefulness, it still does not meet the threshold of AGI.
Soon after OpenAI launched GPT-5 on Thursday, xAI CEO Elon Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) to assert that his company’s latest model still held the lead. Musk, who introduced the Grok 4 Heavy model just last month, claimed that it remained ahead of OpenAI’s newest release.

“Bottom line though: Grok 4 Heavy was smarter 2 weeks ago than GPT-5 is now and G4H is already a lot better,” Musk wrote in a post.
He further doubled down on his claims, calling Grok 4 Heavy the “most intelligent model in the world.”
Well.. GPT5 is not AGI..
